Proactive Technology by Securus Technologies

Securus Technologies was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Carrollton Texas. Rick Smith is the current Chief Executive Officer of Securus. Securus is a American non-profit prison communication and technology company. They have contracts in just under 3000 correctional facilities across the United States and Canada and employ over a thousand people. Additionally, Securus currently services over 2,200 correctional facilities within the US and Canada. A major achievement of Securus was their partnership with Harris Corporation in creating “Call Defender” technology. This advanced technology prevents contraband cell phones from entering prisons and making it impossible to connect to wireless networks.

Many people have praised the advanced technology options that Securus Technologies has brought to correctional facilities. They have been applaunded in call monitoring technology that alerts correctional officers and prison staff to illegal in jail drug deals, cell phones and gang activity. Additionally, this call monitoring technology can help inmates who are suffering from depression. If an inmate calls a loved one and admits they are having suicidal thoughts this call monitoring technology will alert prison staff so they can be sure to provide necessary therapy and medical help to the depressed inmate. This system does not just report necessary data but it helps keep prison staff proactive which better serves the jail, employees, inmates and the community.
